Meet the University Relations Staff
Nancy L. Gavlin, S.E., P.E., is the Director of Education for AISC. She is responsible for AISC’s university relations and continuing education activities. Previous to joining AISC in September, 2008, Nancy worked as a visiting lecturer at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Structural Engineer at Skidmore Owings & Merrill in Chicago. Prior to that, she was Co-Founder and Partner at Gavlin & Reckers Structural Engineers and a Structural Engineer at Skilling Helle Christian Robertson, Inc. in Seattle. In addition to her work experience, Nancy has served as a Board Member for the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation Structural Engineer Licensing and as an active member of various professional organizations such as the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying and the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois. Currently, she is the president of the past Applied Technology Council (ATC). Nancy received her bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her master’s degree in Structural Engineering at the University of California at Berkeley.
Maria Mnookin joined AISC in July 2010. As the Education Program Manager, Maria is responsible for organizing and managing many of the programs and activities for AISC's university programs. She also is responsible for the administrative aspects of AISC's continuing education. Her professional experience includes work as a Creative Project Manager, Advertising Account Executive and Marketing Coordinator. Maria attended Ball State University and received a bachelor’s degree in Marketing.
Erin Criste is a Staff Engineer for AISC Education. Her responsibilities in university relations includes managing the creation and maintenance of AISC faculty teaching aids, planning and organizing faculty workshops and related activities, and developing a sabbatical plan to involve faculty in AISC activities. She also is involved in AISC's continuing education activities. Erin attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee for undergraduate studies and completed her graduate studies by attending Rice University in Houston, Texas. After graduation, Erin worked as a forensic graduate engineer for Nelson Architectural Engineers and continued her career development at LSC Design, Inc. in York, Pennsylvania by designing commercial, residential and industrial structures before joining AISC in 2008.
