SSBC: Compete from Campus

For ASCE Student Symposia that move to virtual events, the Student Steel Bridge Competition (SSBC) will still take place!

Teams can participate from their own campuses and submit documentation of their performance in order to compete with other teams in their region. These teams are subject to the same eligibility requirements for participation and advancement to the National Finals as in-person events. Teams that participate in a Compete from Campus Regional Competition will be eligible to qualify for the in-person National Finals at Virginia Tech on May 27-28.

* Note that this competition format has only been approved for teams participating in the Pacific Northwest Regional Competition.

Official Rules

The SSBC: Compete from Campus will be based on the Official Rules for the 2022 Student Steel Bridge Competition. Questions and clarifications regarding the SSBC rules will still be handled through the normal clarifications process and can be submitted to the Rules Committee through the official online form.

Compete from Campus Guidelines

In order to mimic the conditions of an in-person Regional Competition, all teams should follow the Compete from Campus Guidelines. This document provides details on materials needed for each team to participate, safety concerns, and other important information.

Due to the nature of the Compete from Campus version of the competition, some rules have been adjusted to ensure as much consistency as possible between the teams taking part in the Compete from Campus competition.

Regional Competition Submissions

Teams shall submit all documentation for the SSBC: Compete from Campus by following the instructions and deadlines provided by their Host School.

The Host School will set a time frame during which all Compete from Campus events must occur and the deadline for submission of records. Records may be due up to a week before the awards presentation in order to give judges adequate time to review submissions and determine final scores and rankings. Construction estimates are due to the Host School before the die roll.

Compete from Campus Judging Form

Scoring Spreadsheet, which will be available for download on the Host Resources page. The competition judging forms should be filled-out by the campus Head Judge.
