Night School: Fundamentals of Connection Design (4 of 8)

Brush up on our connection design skills with this 12-hour course (eight 1.5-hour sessions) presented by Brad Davis and Matthew Eatherton!

The course delivers foundational instruction in the analysis and design of connections starting with discussions on critical bolt and weld limit states. We’ll dive right into practical design examples and also take a comprehensive look at shear connections. In the second half of the course, we’ll introduce the design of moment, bracing, and seismic connections.

Session 4: Shear Connections, Part IIcovers single plate connection design, including both conventional and extended single plate connections. The differences between the two were contrasted in design examples. The design of single angle connections, stiffened and unstiffened seated connections are also discussed. The presentation of stiffened seated connections includes a discussion on a simplified approach.
