Night School: Fundamentals of Connection Design (5 of 8)

Brush up on our connection design skills with this 12-hour course (eight 1.5-hour sessions) presented by Brad Davis and Matthew Eatherton!

The course delivers foundational instruction in the analysis and design of connections starting with discussions on critical bolt and weld limit states. We’ll dive right into practical design examples and also take a comprehensive look at shear connections. In the second half of the course, we’ll introduce the design of moment, bracing, and seismic connections.

Session 5: Moment Connections, Part I, covers wind and low seismic moment connection design. Various moment connections are discussed including flange welded-web bolted connections, flange plate welded-web bolted connections, flange plate bolted-web bolted connections, and moment end-plate connections. Column side limit states will be discussed followed by the presentation of a design example.
