Structural Engineer

Benjamin Baer is a structural engineer in suburban Chicago, continuing the practice founded by his father in 1955. His work encompasses structural design of institutional, industrial, and commercial buildings, and design of miscellaneous structures including monumental stairs and handrails, sculpture and public displays, sign structures, and equipment and component supports. He is a consultant to contractors and subcontractors with specialties that include structural and miscellaneous steel, cold-formed steel, HVAC and refrigeration, masonry, and demolition of buildings and bridges.

Ben is a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology with a BS in Civil Engineering. He is a licensed Structural Engineer in Illinois, and a licensed Professional Engineer in eight states. He is a member of the AISC Committee on Structural Stainless Steel (COSSS), Vice-Chair of the COSSS subcommittee on the Code of Standard Practice for Structural Stainless Steel, and a member of the AISC Education Foundation Board of Directors. Ben is a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois and the Robert W. Cornforth Award from the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations.
