Joist and Girder Webinar Series Begins October 21

AISC and the Steel Joist Institute (SJI) are hosting a two-part webinar series, “Evaluation and Modification of Open Web Steel Joists and Joist Girders.” Part one in the series will take place next Wednesday, October 21, from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. (CT).

This webinar will review the process of evaluating existing open web steel joists for revised loading conditions and provide an introduction to modification methods. It parallels the SJI publication, Technical Digest No. 12: Evaluation and Modification of Open Web Steel Joists and Joist Girders.

Topics will include:

  • Identifying key characteristics of in-place joists
  • Determining the original joist manufacturer and whether they can provide any additional documentation
  • Verifying the original design loads and evaluating the joist for the new loads
  • Identifying the joist components and connections that are inadequate

The cost of the webinar is $185 for AISC members, $285 for non-members and $155 for students and educators. (Fees are based on a per-site connection basis. Purchase one site connection and any number of members in your company or organization may view the webinar at that site connection. All attendees are eligible to receive CEUs/PDHs.)

Registrants will receive access to a PDF file of the presentation slides prior to the webinar, CEU/PDH certificates for all attendees upon completion of the live webinar (0.15 CEUs/1.5 PDHs) and complete instructions for accessing the live webinar.

Register for part one of the webinar series at www.aisc.org/webinars. Part two of the series will be hosted by SJI on November 18. Additional information for part two can be found at www.steeljoist.org.
