Awards of Distinction

AISC Awards of Distinction are presented to individuals who have demonstrated excellence in the design or construction of steel-framed buildings or bridges, have helped others achieve greatness, or have advanced the state of the art of design or construction of steel buildings or bridges. These awards celebrate steel and the people who make it great. Awards of Distinction bring prestige to deserving individuals and greater connections to AISC and the steel industry.

2023 Recipients

  • Nitaya Chayangkura - Project Manager, Alfred Benesch & Company
    Recognized for outstanding work on the ACEC-TN Grand Award Winning Southeast Park Access Road and Bridge in Franklin, Tenn., and for serving as a role model for others entering the engineering field.
  • Jeremy Hasselbauer - Project Manager, Magnusson Klemencic Associates
    Recognized for outstanding work on 200 Park Avenue in San Jose and his efforts to educate the design community and advance the use of SpeedCore.
  • Katie R. Lewis - Project Engineer, Alfred Benesch & Company
    Recognized for outstanding work on the ACEC-TN Grand Award Winning Southeast Park Access Road and Bridge in Franklin, Tenn., and for serving as a role model for others entering the engineering field.
  • Alex Lim, PE, Steel Bridge Standards Engineer, Oregon Department of Transportation
    Recognized for his efforts to simplify continuous steel girder pier diaphragm/cross girders and his work with AASHTO/NSBA Collaboration task groups, AASHTO COBS, and Steel Bridge Forums and Workshops.
  • Patrick Peters - Professor of Architecture, Director of Graduate Design/Build Studio, Associate Director of designLAB, Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture, Department of Architecture, University of Houston
    Recognized for orchestrating deliberate interactions across disciplines to help architecture students learn more about steel fabrication and its impact on the design process.
  • Geoff Swett, SE, PE, Steel Specialist and Assistant Design Unit Supervisor, Washington Department of Transportation
    Recognized for helping to connect NSBA with WSDOT state bridge engineers, his advocacy of steel bridges, participation with the Pacific Northwest Steel Fabricators Association, and his work to help plan the World Steel Bridge Symposium.
