AISC TURNS 100: A Century of Steel

AISC Looks Back at the 1920s

As AISC looks forward to the next 100 years of bringing together the structural steel industry, we're also looking back at the decades that defined both AISC and the world in general, starting with the 1920s.

Click through the timeline to discover some highlights of the "Roaring" first decade of AISC, including AISC's founding in 1921, the birth of welded steel buildings, the first Academy Awards ceremony, and the debut of the steel bridge that would serve as the busiest border crossing into Canada for decades to come. You'll even find a cocktail recipe, should you really want to embrace the speakeasy spirit!

This timeline is part of a yearlong celebration of AISC's centennial and joins a retrospective of historic articles, other interactive timelines, and more. In April, AISC explored the 1930s, which saw the construction of some of the most iconic steel buildings in the country.
